A traditional gendered economy in a rapidly modernizing context

india-flag.png

India is changing fast and creating new opportunities for its people.  In contrast, its gendered economy still strongly influences how men and women participate in work.  Women's market labor force participation is low compared to many countries in the region and at similar levels of socioeconomic development.

One of the greatest barriers to understanding these patterns is the lack of a current, comprehensive time use survey in India.  CWW research helps bring attention to the need for more and better data to understand India's gendered economy.
